WELCOME TO ROTARY AND DISTRICT 5750! DISTRICT 5750 NEWS DG Deena Fisher October Newsletter Greeting Rotarians!I am full of hope, enthusiasm, and optimism after visiting 24 out of our 34 clubs. Our clubPresidents are doing amazing service projects with their clubmembers, helping make theircommunities, districts, and the world a better place for us all to live.In fact, I find having a Rotary Club inyour town is where people are going, to seek help. They know they will find a welcoming environmentfrom Rotarians that will do whatever they can to lend a helping hand. And that is why I love being aRotarian!DGE Jeanean, DGN Jack, Past District Governor Angela, Past District Governor and Treasurer Lance, plus manymore Rotarians, just returned from Zone 30/31 Training and Conference “Pathways to the Future” inChattanooga, TN. It was an invigorating conference and renewed our energy and motivation to helpDistrict 5750 continue to strive for the next several years and beyond. As one of the Rotary Internationalspeakers stated, “there may or may not be more beautiful times, but this is our time” right now in2022-2023. Moreover, “We in Rotary have a great future if we realize it is 2022 and life is different than50 or 100 years ago.”Therefore, make decisions for your clubs that suits and fits our time. Let us focusmore on the engagement of our members. As strongly emphasized, “Our attraction rate has to excel theattrition rate in our clubs.”Congratulations to all who were involved in getting RYLA Camp off to a great start! Werner is a forty-plus-year member of South Oklahoma City Rotary. He has served the club in nearly every capacity Jack and his daughter Lynn are both Paul Harris Fellows. Through Rotary, he works to help those with disabilities. He is currently working to raise funds for a ropes course for disabled children at the RYLA youth camp and is working with SOKC Rotary to sponsor a 5K Run to raise funds for Mobility Worldwide that furnishes mobility devices for disabled people in underdeveloped countries. ShelterBox is also one of Jack’s passions for service through Rotary’s participation. He serves as the district representative for ShelterBox.Jack Owns A to Z Inspections, a large commercial and residential inspection company in Oklahoma City. He is a forty-plus-year member of the South Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce. A certified accessibility inspector, Jack provides inspections and advice to help achieve compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act He was awarded the OKC Mayor’s Clearing the Path Award for his work toward accessibility. The NAHB named him the national Instructor of the Year for his work teaching classes to help builders and others apply accessibility standards. Through his business career, Jack enjoys opportunities to mentor and help people lead a well-rounded life, always including an invitation to join Rotary!Jack served with the United States Army, December 1, 1966 – December 1, 1970; Russian linguist, 4th Infantry Division, K Co., 75th Airborne Rangers, two tours in Vietnam.Jack enjoys sharing his life with his partner, Suzanne, and his four adult children and six grandchildren. District Contributes $25,000 to Ukraine Relief As an organization dedicated to peace, Rotarians around the world have rallied to support the ongoing crisis in Ukraine and the millions of refugees affected and District 5750 is among those searching for ways to help.In response to the deepening humanitarian crisis, The Rotary Foundation has created an official channel for donors around the world to contribute funds to support the relief efforts underway by Rotary districts and has designated itsDisaster Response Fundas the main avenue for contributions. Rotary is all about connecting with others to serve our communities – and Global Grants let us do that on a worldwide scale!We’ve all learned new lessons about the importance of connections during the past months of the pandemic. From quarantines and lockdowns to Zoom calls and new styles of gathering, our world has both expanded and contracted in surprising ways. Throughout, our Rotary networks have shown their value as we continue to engage in the world.Connect with RotariansJoin with Club 29 as we build on these networks through three new Global Grants. All are in the beginning stages and in need of your leadership, ideas, and support.Uganda Malaria Elimination Initiative Phase I: Develop the public health infrastructure to eliminate malaria in eastern Uganda by training and equipping community health workers, establishing data collection systems, and expanding public education, testing and treatment of malaria. Malaria Partners International, World Vision and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation are partners in this program building on the success of Rotary’s first Program of Scale.Healthy Start Guatemala Phase 2: Support holistic village development in a rural area of central Guatemala by developing smallholder agriculture and animal husbandry, a network of community health promoters, and women-owned small businesses.Water Systems Upgrade for La’angum Learning Center, Ghana: Increase the quantity and quality of water for drinking, washing and cleaning for students and staff of the La’angum School by building water capture and storage facilities. The school, located in rural northeast Ghana, is run by PAMBE Ghana which has close ties to Oklahoma.From agriculture in Central America to public health in Uganda to water programs in West Africa, your talents and interests are needed to benefit specific projects that have impact.
