Find hotels Welcome to St Andrews Botanic Garden in the East of Scotland The garden has been described as a 'hidden gem' of Scotland. We hope this web site will make it better-known and tempt you to visit in person as well as via the Internet. A general description of the garden can be seen below the map while detailed information and photographs can be viewed by clicking on the links in the green menu-bar above. Explore the garden map below with your cursor to find garden features. About 8000 species of ferns, herbaceous plants, shrubs and trees are grown here. Some are native to Scotland but most grow wild in other regions of the world. All those outdoors are hardy and can be cultivated successfully in the climate around St Andrews. The soil is developed in glacial till overlying magnesian limestone. In the upper part of the garden the texture is a clay loam but near the Kinness Burn, it is sandy with some gravel. Interpretation Boards are situated at various points throughout the garden. Garden Opening Hours Events Calendar Find hotels online
