Brightness Problems?

So when i click on the battery icon on my laptop and change my brightness (its usually on 100%) it will go from 100% to 0% which is just a black scree

So when i click on the battery icon on my laptop and change my brightness (it's usually on 100%) it will go from 100% to 0% which is just a black screen. The problem occurs when i might nudge or move my mouse and cant change the brightness from a black screen to something else

Is this a virus or a feature? I'm on 32bit windows 10

or:It sounds like your battery is causing a lot of issues this says that your battery doesn't keep the charge so you can change the brightness I would take it to someone who knows the laptop who can work on it straighten it out.
