Can I ask for more summer job hours over email?

Hello, I started a summer job on the 23rd of June and worked 4 training shifts with training rate of pay. Now since that scheduke finished I have been giben only 2 days on my new schedule where I missed one because of a whatsapp glitch on their end. Now only one day in this schedule. How can I ask my manager for more hours? Can I ask by email bevause next time I am working is in four days. Or is in person better? But what do I say? Also I noticed on the schedule one person has all the hours and I look barely squeezed in. I need the money badly.
