Can I re-enter the US after my EAD card has been issued, but before my OPT start date?

My OPT start date is August 21st and my current OPT status is that my EAD card is being produced. I guess they will issue and send it soon to the US mailing address I provided. However, I will be traveling abroad for a while and will only come back to the US on August 17 (4 days before my start date). I was wondering if I could enter the US without my EAD card? It's complicated to get a hold of it abroad, as I will be changing cities every 3 days! I know I'll need to carry my passport and I-20 (with signature of less than 6 months) anyways.
