Can I save my phone from water damage and possible fried circuits ?

My phone was on the charger and cup of water spilled over it. I immediately took out the battery and wiped everything down. I waited about 6 mins and

I waited about 6 mins and replaced it on the charger, it still charged but was on "slow charging". After about 15mins I smelled something like melting plastic. My charger had overheated inside my phone. The phone worked until it eventually died due to the fact it wasn't charging

or:i hope you have phone insurance all you can do is dry it out a couple days if not you'll probably will have to go agian and get a new phone
