Since I'm not a zoologist I cannot give you a definite answer but here are parts you should consider:1) The corresponding gender on either species can give different results.2) Perhaps it would purr while it's a kitten?Genetics is very complex and is not simple inheritance so I'm not sure if you can find the answer elsewhere...
