Co-worker says thankyou when we leave work and I think its pretty strange?

so I work with say co-worker milking cows, this person is fairy new to the farm and still learning the ropes some what. she finishes by saying thank y

so I work with say co-worker milking cows, this person is fairy new to the farm and still learning the ropes some what. she finishes by saying thank you as if I have worked for her or have done her a benefit. I totally understand it when my boss says thanks but in this circumstance its a bit weird. I've been meaning to say something but am not sure if its the right thing to do. an example of goodbye chat will go like: Me "i'll see you Wednesday morning, see yah, cheers (or some other goodbye phrase). Co-Worker " Thank you (name). so yeah I would really appreciate some feedback.

thanks surferdude :)

or:I wouldn't worry about her somewhat off kilter response of \"Thank-you\". She is acknowledging her gratitude to you for engaging in the very welcome small talk that is serving as a bonding experience for her. After she is secure and finds work old hat she will probably modify her response to something like \"OK\" or \"ten-four\".
