or:So in the middle there are protons and neutrons in the nucleus. Around the nucleus there are electrons which are in shells there are always two electrons in the first shell(closest to the nucleus) and then there are eight in the second shell and in the shell after the second one there are also eight electrons ( depending on the element your looking at).
