Do arrestees have to remove they're shoes in jail body scanners?

I am studying criminal justice and I found out cops no longer have to strip search inmates being booked in the jail they can simply be body scanned to see if they have any contraband in they're clothes or body cavities. I've read that the Securpass Body Scanner they use don't require people to remove their shoes or jewelry, yet jailers some make inmates remove their shoes anything in their pockets and jewelry and hold their shoes while being scanned. Is this because they can see through the shoes and easier in the X Ray if the arrestee holds them up?

or:Yes, when i came to just visit someone i had to take off my shoes and throw away everything in my pockets. But it also can depend on the crime that was encountered and what type of jail the person would be going to.
