Does anyone know where I could participate in theatre plays in London?

I am a shy 24 year old who has never acted before, but I am looking for plays I could take part in as to develop my public speaking, memory, teamwork

I'm interested to see if there's a community of people who do this on a leisurely basis, showcase anything from renowned to lesser-known plays and have fun. I presume there is some sort of group or society I could become a member of, but have only come across organisations who run workshops for younger folks/kids.

or:I have no clue how it works in the UK but in the US depending on the size of the town you live in there could be several small theater groups. In my town there are about 5 with venues that seat 60 to 200. When they put on plays they have casting calls. You could audition for your local playhouse. What you describe sounds like therapeutic group support not actual acting and I have never heard of those kind of things. As close as I can think of is going to a local community college and taking acting classes.
