Hi,

I have just relaised I haven't payed my road tax for 5 months. I will be getting it taxed this Friday. I wouldn't have received any of reminders etc because I was in process of moving house and totally forgot about setting up redirects etc.

Is it best to tax it and hope they didn't notice? (which I expect they most certainly have)

Or to play the honesty card and contact them and offer to pay the £80 fine plus the missed tax?

I know if you don't pay for 1 month you get the £80 fine, but does that increase month on month after for no SORN or tax?

or:Please explain to those of us who don't live in the U.K. what are road tax, I'm assuming the U.K. isn't the University of Kentucky.

or:Its best to just pay up. If you try to hide it they could (possibly, as I don't know the law there) fine you even more for evasion. Besides, taxes like that are needed to help keep the roads in good repair (at least in theory). In the states, some places will reduce the fees (if they stack) if its the first time its happened and you're honest about it (kinda like the cop knocking a few units below what he caught you speeding at).

or:it will be more better if yuo pay your tax honestly. Because, if you pay for 1 month and found victim later, then you will be charged more than your 5 months. So, please pay honestly for 5 months.
