Gap Year after college?

Hey guys! I'm in year 11 and I was thinking of taking a gap year after college and travel. But, the whole thing is really confusing and I don't know how it works and what I'll have to do. The thing is, I don't want to ask all the money from my parents so I wanted to work during college and for at least 5 months during the gap year and then travel. But, is this possible? I don't know how it work and how you organize this... Has anyone of you taken a gap year to travel? If so, mind helping me?
