However, no matter what happens if I leave the room he follows me. I understand there can be only one alpha inmy puppy's mind but why is he more obedient with my bf? Can I be the chosen one in my german shelard's eyes but my bf be the alpha??

or:I sounds like neither of you are training him. I suggest that you either read a book, or hire a trainer. You're both laying the groundwork for a lifetime of poor behavior.
