Has anyone had an issue where their parents have given them everything and when you actually want to start being independent, your parents wont let you? i.e. I'm a 25 year old with a bachelor degree and a decent job, I was given a car for graduation. Today I had a conversation with my step dad and told him that I was ready to take on responsibility and buy my own vehicle and he could sell the one he got me. He basically told me that I wasn't allowed and that it'd be stupid for me to do that. I understand that it will be a lot easier to save money for a house but at the same time, how can one learn to be independent when they are never given any responsibility. Its embarrassing knowing that all of my friends who are the same age and younger all have had to pay for everything they do and I'm still being supported by my parents even though I have asked to take on my own responsibility. Would it be totally disrespectful to go and buy a vehicle anyway?

or:I think being independent does not mean refusing any gift or help from your parents. The car is their wish for you , so just accept it. As for other things, you can learn to be responsible for yourself and tell them you finally need to support yourself. If they don't allow you to do this, how can you live without them in future?
