How can dinosaurs be 66 million years ago, but the bible says the earth is about 10,000 years old? The bible doesn't say exactly when but this doesn't make any sense. I don't have a religion. I just want to understand how this works.

or:The two things you stated were of two different views. Evolutionists believe that dinosaurs lived 66 million years ago, but the bible doesn't agree. Most Christians would say that the earth isn't 66 million years old, but only about ten thousand.

or:The bible actually doesn't say the earth was around for 10,000 years (that was some guy in the Medieval time period of all times), it's actually a little over 50,000 years, and there's no way to prove dinosaurs were around millions of years ago, when carbon dating is only accurate to, hmm, 50,000 years ago, sometimes even less (especially in aquatic carbon dating).

or:The bible does not say any such thing.

or:Evolution and creation should not, in my view of it, be opposites. According to the Bible, God created the world. What was previously said about genealogies and such makes sense, but the Hebrew people only recorded history to teach lessons, their idea of "history" was very different than ours. The lesson from the creation story was not how many hours it took God to create the days, God could have done it instantaneously or taken much longer, it's just important that God did it. Also, why would God rest? God was modeling in this story how we should be - work six days and rest one. Whether it was created in six days about ten thousand years ago or over the course of the last few billion years doesn't really matter since that's not the point of the creation story. The story asks "who, what, and why" and not so much the "when and why." Reading it as a history book is reading it differently than the original Hebrew writers intended it, and therefore I would encourage you to think twice about doing that! Question everything, even this post! Don't just accept something because somebody tells you it is so. Think about it, and come to a conclusion based on what you learn, that's why I'm ELCA Lutheran since Lutherans love people who ask questions and are willing to talk!

or:Many consider the word “day” used in Genesis chapter 1 to mean 24 hours. However, in Genesis 1:5 God himself is said to divide day into a smaller period of time, calling just the light portion “day.” In Genesis 2:4 all the creative periods are called one “day”: “This is a history of the heavens and the earth in the time of their being created, - in the day [all six creative periods] - that Jehovah God made earth and heaven.”The Hebrew word yohm, translated “day,” can mean different lengths of time. Among the meanings possible, William Wilson’s Old Testament Word Studies includes the following: “A day; it is frequently used for time in general, or for a long time; a whole period under consideration .Day is also used for a particular season or time when any extraordinary event happens.” This appears to fit the creative “days,” for certainly they were periods when extraordinary events were described as happening. It also allows for periods much longer than 24 hours.Genesis chapter 1 uses the expressions “evening” and “morning” relative to the creative periods. Does this not indicate that they were 24 hours long? Not necessarily. In some places people often refer to a man’s lifetime as his “day.” They speak of “my father’s day” or “in Shakespeare’s day.” They may divide up that lifetime “day,” saying “in the morning [or dawn] of his life” or “in the evening [or twilight] of his life.” So ‘evening and morning’ in Genesis chapter 1 does not limit the meaning to a literal 24 hours.“Day” as used in the Bible can include summer and winter, the passing of seasons. (Zechariah 14:8) “The day of harvest” involves many days. (Compare Proverbs 25:13 and Genesis 30:14.) A thousand years are likened to a day. (Psalm 90:4; 2 Peter 3:8, 10) “Judgment Day” covers many years. (Matthew 10:15; 11:22-24) In conclusion it would seem reasonable that the “days” of Genesis could likewise have embraced long periods of time—millenniums.

or:Well the bible and science in regards to the earth is in harmony. No where does the bible contract what science have come to believe as to the age of the "earth" Some people believe that the earth was created in 6 24hr days. Which is not the case. People tend to look at things from their perspective and then assign that to God himself. But in the bible God himself states that to him 1000yrs is as if a day. Indicating that for one he is not confined by time since he lives forever. Also we get a look into that a day can span many many many years. We even speak in terms of a day being longer than 24hrs. Like back in my day.. back in the day... etc. When we speak in such a manner to someone we automatically know it is span of time not 24hrs. Same is true with the creation of the earthYou can find more information on the topic by going to jw.org. or:The earth could not have been created 66 million years ago. The bible is not the only proof of that. Scientists have confirmed that the earth is growing a tad bit smaller by a bit every small period of time which would mean that the earth was HUGE millions of years ago. If it was huge, then how would life on Earth be supported? The theory that the earth was created millions of years ago is false. Dinosaurs weren't either.

or:While the radioactive dating method is innovative, it is still based on speculation and assumption. In contrast, the Bible account in the first chapter of Genesis simply states the general order of creation. It allows for possibly thousands of millions of years for the formation of the earth and many millenniums in six creative eras, or “days,” to prepare the earth for human habitation. Some dinosaurs (and pterosaurs) may indeed have been created in the fifth era listed in Genesis, when the Bible says that God made “flying creatures” and “great sea monsters.” Perhaps other types of dinosaurs were created in the sixth epoch. The vast array of dinosaurs with their huge appetites would have been appropriate considering the abundant vegetation that evidently existed in their time.—Genesis 1:20-24. The dinosaurs had fulfilled their purpose, God ended their life. They were no mistake, no product of evolution. The fossil record does not support the evolution theory. Instead, it harmonizes with the Bible’s view of creative acts of God.For more information on this subject and others, please go to jw.org "Online Library." Also for free downloads, publication or read online.

or:It's down to whether one prefers the scientific approach & occam's razor, or the spiritual approach & suspension of disbelief, or a form of nihilism / solipsism. It's as simple to claim a divine entity need not obey physics and create a cosmos tailored & aged to perfection of naught, as it is to claim whoever wrote the book was prone to prevarication.Neither side has presented proper, tangible fantasy magic as yet, so their debate may continue indefinitely for all I care.
