I told my parents that I wanted Overwatch, and they requested to see the trailer. Not 5 seconds passed after my mother said no (my dad was pretty chill about it). She said it was "too violent." To me, this seemed very immature and closed-minded of her. I intend to discuss this in-depth and not let the topic drop (as she typically does).

Some background info: I am a 15 year old male in 10th grade, I never get below a B in all of my classes. I am quite responsible, very patient, and I can be very persistent. My mother knows I'm a good kid; she knows I would never knowingly do something wrong. The most violent video game I have is Super Smash Bros for the Wii U, and my mother doesn't even like that. She is very overprotective..

or:It seems like you are very responsible and i think you need to show your mom that. Try persuading her. like telling her what a great student you are and try tell her about the game and try not to make it sound violent. For example tell her the game is about \"it is about a first-person shooter in which players join an international task force trying to restore peace to the world.\" it will make it seem less violent. Then tell her for the game it is rated for teens so if it was too violent for teens then it would have been rated r so tell her it is appropriate for your age. Also your father didn't say anything about the game so he can also try to convinced your mom and she might change her mind after both of you talk to her.Hope this helps :)

or:If you have any friends that play the game, say that you feel left out when your friends talk about it at school (even if they don't). This will likely make your mother sympathise for you and also dont call it a first person shooter, call it an fps.

or:Talk to your dad about it. Since your a boy it would be the better choice of people to talk to. Plus he is the man of the house. Not to be offensive but he should have more say than you mom. The fact that your in 10th grade and the most violent game your mom lets you play(and still does not like for that matter) is super smash bros. it sounds like she is trying to suppress your emotional and intellectual growth. I can tell from your question and the details that you put in it that you are an intelligent and responsible person. As a fellow game lover myself I can say Overwatch is not extraordinarily violent. And the only reason games lead to violence is the idiots who think that just because it is in the media or in a movie, game, book or song they like it makes it okay. Or the people who have such lousy existences that they will do anything out of the norm. I can tell that you are not that type of person. Take me for example. I was born in 1991. I spent my whole life playing very violent games. I played games like Doom, Quake, and Wolfenstein. The original ones for that point. I played those when I was like 4 and 5. Still play them alot. As a kid I have played alot of pretty intense games like Mortal Kombat, Diablo, Baldurs Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Icewind Dale. A whole bunch of strange and semi to very intense games and I never had trouble. I never went out and committed crimes or did anything illegal. I turned out fine even exposed to that kind of stuff at such a young age. I think your mom should let you play it. It is just a game after all. It is not in the realm of possibility so it should not be a problem.
