or:Clouds form when there is more water in the air than the air can hold. It needs be deposited from the air as tiny drops of water vapour or ice crystals (the basis of clouds). There are two reasons why air would reach maximum saturation of water. (a) If you add water to the air (i.e. water evaporating off the sea).(b) If the temperature cools. The lower the temperature, the less water air can hold. So you may have very humid air at 6\u00baC but no clouds. If it suddenly falls to 1\u00baC and there's now more water vapour than the cooler air can handle, it will be deposited as cloud (and perhaps eventually rain or snow).
