This period began when the Roman Empire ended in AD 476, or you might hear of this event as the \"collapse of the Roman Empire\" in about AD 500. Before that, Romans ruled and were extremely powerful. They lived peacefully next to many Germanic tribes. But when Huns from China started to invade the Germanic tribes, these people moved west into Roman lands to escape. This started conflicts. The Germanic people brought their own rules and customs with them and didn't want to accept Roman rule. Eventually, the Romans lost power.
