How do I convince my dad to get another dog?

I have a small lab (she's 65 pounds), and I love her to death. But my other dog died a few years ago, and I've been wanting another dog for a very long time. I have found a small dog online to adopt in a shelter near us. I've done research on the breed, and I already take care of my current dog. I walk her, give her her meals, that stuff. And that's what I'm planning on doing for whatever other dog I get. But I don't know how I should ask my dad. He has said before that he would want to get a small dog, but I don't know what I should do. Any ideas on how I should tell him about the dog?
