How does the the current military power of the Kurds and the fact that they are fighting ISIS helps?

or:They have been trying to re-unite Kurdistan from the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire, and the establishment of the artificial national borders of Syria, Iraq (which includes adjacent Turkey & Iran) under the British/French mandate post WW1. They see ISIS as just another threat to their autonomy & to the type of country they wish to rebuild.
