or:They are the same. An indexed variable is a way to organize groups (arrays) of variables. The index its self is just the is the little 'subbed' number that connotes Xsub1 as different from Xsub2. You could just as easily have a different letter for every variable (this might get crowded though).X + Y = 1 and Xsub1 + Xsub2 = 1 are the same equation, variably speaking.
