How long can I leave my tonuge web piercing out without it permanently closing?

I have had my tongue web pierced for about 4 months and luckily it healed fine. I had it pierced before but it was done incorrectly and rejected. This time it's great and I love it! 6 days ago I was diagnosed with mono and I just feel awful and sick and gross. I brush my teeth about 3 times a day, but with my illness right now my mouth just feels so yucky. My piercing isn't helping so I decided to take it out until I recover (which could be up to another month). I really love my piercing but it is just making my sickness worse and I want to feel better more than anything. Can I leave it out until I recover without it closing for good?? Or will I have to get it redone?? I am a little unsure of what I should do.
