How much do grades high school grades matter for becoming a geoscientist?

I am extremely passionate about geosciences and wish to pursue geology or earth sciences in the future, i dream of working with national geographic as an internishp after undergraduations and pursue research futher. I love the earth and its sciences.
However my high school grades arent too attractive, i got 82% in class 10 with a 97 percentile and i think my class 12 grades are going to be in the mere 70's category. i scored an 82% again in class 11. I did aim for a 90 up result but the papers were difficult this year and honestly i goofed up (was so scared and put pressure on myself to do well that in the end i fizzled out and suddenly stopped caring!) are my dreams now achievable?? Also my parents wanted me to pursue engineering however i insisted on a geological sciences and now i cant even score well, i was bringing a 90 around an up score all through the year and now its all so gone....:-( my parents wont even allow me to pursue sci maybe with such a low score how can i convince them? I also wont be getting too good a college :-( I look around and see all my friends getting successful....:-( Theres just this thing my teachers believe i have a very curious mind and its hard to convince me of the theories easily unless i myself understand and accept them...also they say im pretty hard working and ask a lot of questions....also i kind of have natural flair for chemistry.. and my teachers say i do have qualities of a straight A kid.... did i mention i also wish to go abroad i.e mostly US or new zealand or canada for higher education?

or:If you really are passionate and keep pursuing your goals, nothing can stop you. Although school marks can be great for screening out some unqualified people, it's not everything. Talk to a career adviser about how you could get into your field without getting straight As.That being said, 80% is above average performance in any good school. Your well on your way.
