or:They buy in bulk direct from the manufacturer. So if I bought a 1000kgs at 100 dollars I wouldn't sell it for 10 kgs a dollar, I'd sell 1 kg for a dollar and thus make a 9 dollar profit per kg. It's more complicated than that but that is essentially how it works.
or:The printing on the label that might say 99p is the suggested or target resale price. The store buys at a whole sale price. They might pay 75p per unit but then resell for the labeled price
