I wish to connect my xbox through ethernet to my router and then my router wirelessly to my modem however whenever i diconnect the router to modem wan

I wish to connect my xbox through ethernet to my router and then my router wirelessly to my modem however whenever i diconnect the router to modem wan connection i lose internet access the problem is my modem is hard wired in downstairs and i don't have a wireless network adapter for my xbox. is there any way i could connect my xbox through ethernet upstairs and have the router wireless transmit data to the modem?
