How to respond back to a friend?

Well basically I was just talking to a friend and hes older than me, we have a big age gap but anyways he was telling me that he got a GF and they we

Well basically I was just talking to a friend and he's older than me, we have a big age gap but anyways he was telling me that he got a GF and they were together for 3 years and I was like 'aw what happened?' and he said 'we just got in a rut, we stopped trying with each other , so we called it quits' and then I was like 'Oh well dont worry, you have me :)'. and then he said 'aww how kind of you' with a :P emoticon. So what do I say back to that? I want to say something really nice back without trying to sound cheesy or something? I want him to know that I genuinely care and I want him to think me of me as a close friend, so what can I say to him back sounding kind of intelligent and maybe throw in a little humour but being as nice as possible?

or:Age gap relations are not bad....consider pros and cons before going ahead...time ll tell u how to react....if u guys r comfortable with each other...nice things ll happen naturally.
