Idk if this is the right place for this question but a while back I twisted my ankle playing basketball. I was in a lot of pain immediately after it happened and my team mates insisted I stretch it out and keep playing. So I tried to keep playing but the pain didn't let up. After a few runs down the court we took a break and I sat down and tried to concentrate on stopping the pain and to my surprise it did stop. It just felt like something was pressing on the spot where I previously felt pain. But when we started playing again it started to hurt again. So I figured it was just relaxed when I took a break. Well when I got home and took a shower I turned the water on as hot as I could, which is much more than I can usually handle, and tried to hold my hands under it and it took a few tries but eventually I could hold my hands under the water and only feel a little needle prick feeling. Still technically a pain but easily bearable. For a while I could only do it with my hands but I kept practicing and gradually got to where I could turn off the pain in most parts of my body. I've just recently learned to turn of multiple parts at the same time. I was wondering if anyone else has ever figured this out and if anyone knows other things like this that may be possible. I read about monks in Tibet who meditate so long they have reached a level of enlightenment that allows them to do similar things and I do meditation but it's just a mind focus technique we use in wing chun and I don't believe I do it enough to say it is the key to my newfound ability. But if anyone has any references or experiences or maybe even explanations please enlighten me, no pun intended. And please be realistic. I don't want any bs about telekinesis and time travel. I still have a hard time grasping the fact that turning off pain is possible. I want realistic possibilities and answers.
