I'm 13 years old, and I've had my period for over a year now. I've always been wearing pads since I've started mt period, and I've luckily never had a time where my period has interfered with me going swimming or anything. That is, until now.

I'm going to a water park with my mom and my step dad on August 15th, and today is August 7th. I hit my period last night, and I immediately freaked out. I started thinking about when it was going to end and how I was going to get away with having it while swimming. I have a stash of tampons that my friends have gave to me in the past just in cause something like this were to happen, but I am absolutely terrified of tampons.

I'm scared of the pain that comes with inserting one into my vagina. I asked my friend about a year ago, and I remember her telling me that they don't hurt at all. I've also read a lot of forums on the internet and people say that it doesn't hurt. I know I sound like a crybaby, but I just don't believe them. How could that not hurt?! It sounds extremely painful and I'm currently sobbing at the moment because I'm absolutely terrified of wearing a tampon. Can somebody please help me out? I have nobody to help me, and I just feel so alone with this situatiom. Can somebody please tell me the truth about what it feels like to insert and wear a tampon? I also have a few questions.

1. Will the tampon get stuck inside of me?
2. Will the tampon break my hymen?
3. About how far (in inches please) does the tampon need to be inserted into my vagina?
4. What do I do if ths string breaks off?
5. What's the best and most pain free way to insert a tampon?
6. How do I remove the tampon without any pain?
7. How long should I leave a tampon in?
8. How painful is it when you insert a tampon?
9. Is it really painful when you first wear it?
10. How long does it take to get used to tampons?

or:1. No the tampon will not get stuck inside you.2. For some people it does but you wouldn't know if it does because it doesn't hurt.3. Tampons have grooves on them where you hold them put it to there (you can watch videos on youtube if you are worried about messing it up)4. I promise you the string wont break off5. Like I said before watch a video or have your mom help you with how to do it... it might be uncomfortable the first time you put one in and that's normal, it shouldn't hurt.6. You just pull it out by the string.7. If you don't bleed much you can for 5-6 hours, if you have a heavier flow you might need to change it at 3-4 hours. (You can sleep with one through the night)8. Not painful, you might mistake slight discomfort for pain but you will get use to it really quickly.9. No just a bit uncomfortable.10. Maybe a day or two, but its not bad.I was in a position like you when I had to first put one in and I was also scared but don't worry too much if you want to be used to it by your trip try it before so you get the hang of it. I hope this helped any other questions swing by your mom or look up on youtube. Have a fun trip.
