Is a Gemeinhardt 3SS a good flute?

The 3ss squeaks in the upper register and I get good sound out of my old 'pawn shop', re-padded 2sp. The 3ss has had basic setup but the more I play it the more I get upper register noise. How old is a 3ss and how often is a re-pad recommended?
It, 3ss is near perfect as far as scratchs and marks. Do I have a good flute?
