Is it cheaper to maintain a constant heat level in the house? My system defaults at 64 degrees.?

... Should I leave it at that, or shut the system down when it seems warm, then have to reheat the house from 54 degrees? I've been told that the surge to reheat can cost more than leaving the system at a steady temp, but it seems wasteful to have the house warmer than I need it

or:this is alot of self ajustment to what tempature that you feel is needed would your house be different if you set it about 54 degrees and leaving it at that temperature i hear that it cost more if you have a certain temperature your looking at so think about this if i set my heat to 54 at all times you would save more this way instead of turning it up to 64 and then turning it down to 54 it seems it would be costley at that point but to try leaving it at 54 and not having to bother agian to set it seems that that would be cheaper in the long run
