or:Yes it is a good thing. Parents do it because they want to make sure their kid is safe from predators etc. and they want to make sure their kid isn't doing anything he/she shouldn't be doing. The parents are responsible if anything happens and they do it because they care and love their kid and don't want anything bad to happen.
or:If the kid is under 18 and the parent is paying for the phone, the kid has no legal right to privacy.
