or:Maybe obesity is a type of response to food plenty, but in fact, there are a lot of reasons to cause obesity

or:Neither, it's a societal problem. There are obese people in all countries in all states of plenty and want. If we ignore medical reason (which are an extreme minority of obese people) then we can say that the only reason for obesity is greed, or simply eating the wrong foods, and a lack of exercise. Of course in times of plenty it is easier for people to get more food so the incidences of obesity increase but even in starving countries the wealthy and powerful will have access to food and some of them will be obese. The idea that obesity is a response linked to the availability of food is false though.

or:Obesity is not always an result of eating too much food or the wrong type of foods. To be honest, obesity mostly has to do with heath conditions such as a thyroid imbalance. It also has to do with the amount of effort put into living a healthy life. If you sit on the couch all day eating chips, you obviously don't care about your weight. But, if you try to eat healthy, exersize daily, and binge only once in a blue moon, you will be 'in shape'.

or:Both. When food is in plenty, people tend to over-eat and end up taking-in more calories. They grow fat...and eventually become obese. When food is scarce, many poor families resort to eating starchy, low-cost, baked foods that are also high in sugar. They spend less on fruits and veggies, increasing the risk of becoming obese.
