Is the Microsoft Surface Book a good investment for college students doing typical college stuff?

Im a college student looking to replace my current Toshiba Satellite L745-s4110 (that Ive had since starting high school) with something a little more

I'm a college student looking to replace my current Toshiba Satellite L745-s4110 (that I've had since starting high school) with something a little more light weight and up-to-date. The Surface Book seems to be ideal for note taking while still being a fully functional laptop, but I've read mixed reviews and want more opinions before I make a purchase. I need a laptop/tablet that will hopefully last through grad school.

or:Spending $2,000 to replicate the note taking ability of a 10 cent pencil and a $5 notebook is not the way to go. Taking notes with a stylus on a computer is mostly a gimmick for students. If you want a laptop that is cheaper, will last longer and is lighter, go with a MacBook Air.
