Is there a rule for the order dice should be played at backgammon?

will someone help me out with a situation: I draw a 6 and a 4. if I play the 4 first, I cannot play the 6 then. but if I play the 6 first, I can play

will someone help me out with a situation: I draw a 6 and a 4. if I play the 4 first, I cannot play the 6 then. but if I play the 6 first, I can play the 4 afterwards. however, I would rather play the 4 first and be rid of the 6, because if I play the 6 first and the 4 afterwards, I jeopardise my whole game. is there a rule stipulating the order in which to play the dice? am I free to chose whichever die I play first, regardless of the fact that the outcome may be that playing the second die becomes impossible? many thanks E

or:I have no experience to play Backgammon.Backgammon is a game for two players, played on a board consisting of twenty-four narrow triangles called points. I know only this about Backgammon.

or:from my experience you may use either the 6 or the 4 first, what ever is to your advantage
