Is there any reason not to use a real picture of you as a profile picture? eg: steam profile/forum?

Most people are comfortable using a real picture of themselves on Facebook, where it is accessible by anyone. Why then, do people not use real pictures of themselves on other websites where they do not require anonymity? For example, on a forum or profile page.

Is there any significant risk in using your picture, perhaps an increased chance of identity theft? If so, how is this any different from Facebook?

I've heard the argument of "people can track you down" as and answer. Realistically though, I feel that if someone on a forum wanted to physically track you down, it would probably easier with an email/ip address than with a picture. Am I right in presuming this?

Thanks for any help with this.
