my mother-in-law is a painfully overreligious, southern baptist. she is completely boxed in to what she believes and nothing else. today she brought up me going to a different church, and from there it turned into an arguement over ethics/morals vs. religion. i believe having good morals and ethics are more important than religion. knowing whats right and wrong and a person's standards is more important than being told how to live your life from another person. that is why so many people kill in the name of God is b/c they have been told, possibly from birth, that is what is acceptable, she doesn't believe people kill in the name of 'her' God. she quoats things her 'preacher' says and she just accepts it, she doesn't look it up, she doesn't question it morally, nothing. i had a baby a few months ago, and she keeps pushing me to join her church or at least one like it so he can be raised "right". its more than irritating. I am very liberal, and i think people should not care less about what other people's choices are in life and focus on yourself and your family and if they are going to live by the bible, at least dont pick just the parts you like

my son's first birthday is happening soon. i honestly dont know if i want her there at all. she said she wouldnt come if we had a clown b/c somehow its 'not what she believes in'. its her only grandchild so im probably going to let her come, but i dont want to deal with her standing up and preaching to all of the guests telling them they are going to hell because they drank kool-aid and not water

or:She doesn't believe in clowns ???For a childs birthday ??????Oh dear, how sad !!!!However .....Her beliefs are hers...+ you have to respectthem (.even if you don't agree)(You want her to respect you .)Talk to her + tell her you have to 'Agree to Disagree' on The subject of Religion.Tell her she has her beliefs but you do notshare them. But you respect that right.Ask her to respect yr rights. You need to choose whats right for you + yr child. But if you can respect each other'srights + co exist - great.
