or:well i think you should explain to your parents that whatever your cousin and your girlfriend had before was long over and it is in the past and should be put in the past and that it should not affect your relationship with her and that it is a very different story also tell them to try to get to know your girlfriend first and not just stereotype her because she is your cousins past girlfriend
