My girlfriend wants our parents to meet?

Pretty simply put, my girlfriend wants her parents to meet my mom. Even though she and I have been in a serious relationship for almost two years now,

Pretty simply put, my girlfriend wants her parents to meet my mom. Even though she and I have been in a serious relationship for almost two years now, we aren't getting married just yet. In my culture, families do not meet each other until the couple is engaged at the very least. I've tried explaining this to my girlfriend but her response always seems to be "well your family lives in America and should be a little more open to American customs." She then goes on to explain that it's normal for families to meet each other once the relationship gets serious. I was born here in the states and have never heard that being the case. How do I get my girlfriend to stop bringing up the issue, and get her to understand that this is just a cultural norm of mine rather than the fact that my mom is afraid or unwilling to meet her parents at this point. Is my mom in the wrong for not wanting to meet? How long did you wait in a relationship before your families met. Was it before you even got engaged?

or:I think your girlfriend is right TO AN EXTENT. She put it in terms that were a little harsh. Instead of 'since you live here you should be more open to American customs', she should have talked it over with you and come up with a compromise. This way, you two wont get in a big fight. Sit down and talk it over with her, it will be good to see how you two deal with arguments before you get married. Best wishes :)
