or:They should have called them the Thick Intestine and the Thin Intestine.

or:The names of the two intestines are not referring to their length, but their diameter. The diameter of the small intestine is smaller than that of the large intestine, so that is how it got its name. Basically, the small intestine is narrower, hence the name 'small' intestine.
