I have friend who lives in NH who recently had an oil spill [200 gallons ] We know who’s at fault, the state knows who’s at fault. There will be a law suit but in time. My friend needs help now. He and his wife loves the house, but between the mortgage payment and what it is costing him for the clean up [NH says they have no money at this time to help with the cost of the clean up] he’s finding it hard to do both. He knows that he will never be able to sell the house, so he’s thinking of just walking away. My question is would it be helpful to contact the institution who holds the mortgage for some help [refinancing, or any help]. My thinking is they do have a financial interest in the property.
Any thoughts anybody would have would be helpful

or:I think I know the oil spill your talking about, it happened in 2008 the company is Enpro, I think the company should compensate for the damage done to the house, they need to be held accountable for their negligence. Even if your friend does walk away, tell him not to walk away without compensation from the company who basically destroyed his property, he deserves to receive enough money to buy another house and Enpro should pay for it. Although as I understand it, there was already a 2million dollar lawsuit against Enpro for the spill. Anyone who's property was damaged should be compensated individually. I suggest contacting a lawyer and your real estate company but other than that I'm sorry I can't help more. Your friend deserves a large financial settlement for his loss.
