Shotgun - I am having issues with my Mossberg 535 pump. The firing wasn't striking the shell casing?

Upon cleaning it I think I may have put something in wrong and now the slide release will not release after the first shot. I have to push the slide release lever to chamber another round. Does anyone know what I might have done to cause it to do this?
