Should there be a better way to compensate a person who has suffered damages? Specifically, why do?

... the courts award money for pain and suffering? Maybe a better way to compensate a person should be considered. For example, why not make the responsible party an indentured servant for a period of time? Perhaps the doctor who commits malpractice, the driver who hits the pedestrian, the homeowner whose dog bites a guest should have to assist the person who is injured until he/she is recovered. What are the pros and consequences of this idea or any other idea you can develop?

or:I think normally they have a jury who listens to the case they decide based on the severity of the issue at hand how long the person has been without an income no insurance what percentage of disability the person has when the person becomes stable and nothing more can be done medically stationary. Then you get sent to a Dr who practices rating or a jury that does that same work and you get what they come up with I think that's a good idea, but this is what I come up with.
