To find out military history, I only know how to do it for UK soldiers (my great great grandfather and his brother were both in France for the Great War, both in the battle of the Somme). If you can use something like ancestry.com to find a regiment, you should be able to get a history of that regiment and see their movements across France.For me, what helped most was what we call MICs in Britain, or \"medal index cards\". That helped me track them down and get their regiments and service numbers.
