So in my opinion its a rpg/adventure game. But you start out on a island and there are crab enemies there and eventually you actually make it back to land. If anything you wake up on the island and that's all i can remember and at the time I had a nds so it either a gameboy advanced cartridge or a nds cartridge. You can equip different items also

or:I'm afraid the closest game I know is Lester the Unlikely, and that's neither an RPG nor a gameboy/ds game.It did involve waking up on an island and enemy crabs, though.
