What happens in North Carolina if you lose your permit for a day? does your 1 year period restart?

I live in North Carolina where you have a permit for 1 year before you get your license. I recently lost my permit for just one day before I got another. Will they go by my original issue date on file or by the most recent duplicate issue date?

or:Lost as in the permit itself like you threw it away or it got misplaced? Or Lost as in it expired? If it is just misplaced then they go by the original date of issue. If you lost it due to it expired then you have to get it reissued usually via another test(sometimes not) then it is by that issue date of when you asked for it again and took the test again(or not).
