Metabolism is chemical reaction that usually happens in cells of living organisms to sustain life (when I say living organism, it's like all the things that basically live :D) and those reactions allow organisms to reproduce and grow and other things like respond to their environments. Metabolism is divided into two things, first one harvests energy and the second one uses energy to create components of cells like protein.
