or:Definition :Death is defined as the cessation of all vital functions of the body including heartbeat, brain activity (brain stem also) , and breathing.We say we get old because of growing new tissues and also wasting body tissues. That is a simple statement of getting old.If you want to know the reasons scientifically...If you want to know the reasons in psycology stream.. Buddhism teaches you alot. or:The scientific answer for death i can not give you. but as a person who reads the bible, there is answers. But first i would like to say that is a good question, that many individuals ask. One thing I do know from science is our body cells breaks down and grows. So why at an old age those cells stop? Well that part on the science side I cannot answer. LOL. But from a bibles view I can understand. Adam was created perfect, but due to his sin this caused him to grow old and die. or:I heard different theories, but the most interesting one is about shortening of telomeres. Telomeres are sort of \"caps\" on the sides of DNA molecule. With each division of cells, because of a bug (error), they become shorter. This is bad for the cells, as you can imagine, resulting in more frequent mutations and stuff like that. There is a substance called telomerase present in our bodies which can repair them, but it's not that simple either. Scientist could try to repair telomeres, but the problem is: this way they can also create cancer... Because apparently cells will start to divide uncontrollably. So dont matter who we are we have succumb to such inheritance. The question is does death means no coming back?Let's look at God's word the bible and see if there is any hope for the dead:1) John 5:28/29,\" Do not be amazed at this,for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, and those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment.\" This scripture proves that God promise there is hope for our dear love ones. There is going to be a resurrection. That means death is a temporary sleep where the person will be awaken in the very near future.2) Revelation 21:4,\" He will wipe out every tear from their eyes,and death will be no more,neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.\" This scripture helps us see that death will be a thing of the pass. Very soon our greatest enemy death will have no hold on us, it will be done away with ,gone forever.3) Psalm 37:29,\" The righteous will possess the earth, And they will live forever upon it.\" This verse proves that people will be living forever right here on the earth. So after the resurrection people will have the opportunity to live forever on a paradise earth. So there is a hope for our dear love ones who have fallen asleep in death. Every living creature is born, grows, becomes old and dies - this is the law of cycles. This whole world runs on certain universal laws. Therefore, we can't ask this question - why do we become old? Rather, we should ask - what should we do when we become old? We should not ask questions about death but understand death. Death is not the end, it is just a bend. Death is only of the body, and the name. The person dies, but the one who was alive, that is the ME, the Mind and the Ego. The ME, along with its Karma, is reborn. Therefore, you will understand that if some children are born blind, it is because of their deeds from a previous life. Let us learn to understand death and before we grow old, learn to be liberated from all our negative Karma.

or:Science has no definition of death, at most they call it the opposite of life, the end of life, but science cannot define what death is. Spirituality can. Science may tell us why we grow old, it may have some theories but spirituality knows that life and death are a part of a cycle. We are not the body that we wear, we are the ones that wear the body; we are the Divine Spirit, the Atman, the Soul. Spirituality knows that we are energy, and science is slowly coming to terms with that. In a scientific experiment, scientists have realized that every cell of our body is nothing but energy, they have called it Wave Particle Duality. So even science admits that while we appear to be a human being, the reality is that we are all energy. Death is when the energy inside us departs, it leaves all the thirty trillion cells, then there is no breath. This is the cycle of life and death, and we have to transcend this cycle, we have to escape from suffering by the Realization of the Truth or Enlightenment.
