What should I wear to my boyfriends sister's wedding?

I am 20 and I've never been to a wedding before and iv really got no idea. I don't know if the wedding is formal/ black tie really; all I know is that the bride's dress is non-traditional (red, black) and the men probably wont wear suit jackets.
Im worrying a bit because their will be approx 60 of his family members there that I haven't met (and im very shy) including his dad and that side of the family who are apparently a bit racist and iv already been told that they probably wont like me...
Also I have skin that makes me look like I a just very, very, very tan, and its hard to find colours and clothes in general that suit me..
