or:There wasn't a single war in which all colonies won independence. For instance, in the Eighty Years' War (1568\u20131648), the Low Countries won independence from Spain. In the Mozambican War of Independence (in 1970), Mozambique fought for independence from Portugal. And in the American War of Independence (1775\u20131783), America sought independence from Great Britain. Some British colonies remain part of the Commonwealth and are not truly independent despite self-government.
